Rare Monumental Victorian Solid Oak Dining Table with Winged Griffons
A piece this unique can only come from the 19th century Victorian era. This piece belonged to a private collection we recently acquired that included a couples’ life long collection of fine Victorian furniture, most of which were collected during trips abroad and shipped overseas to their North Carolina Estate.
This incredibly rare dining table was crafted in the 19th century out of solid oak wood cut with a quarter sewn cut, more commonly known as “tiger oak.” At its smallest configuration, this table is a 54in square with room for two on each side, but the table can expand up to 100 inches long with the four 11.5in wide leaves available, allowing for many more guests to join. The table top is carved on the perimeter, which is continued on three of the four leaves, and along the apron as well. The pedestal base is also ornately decorated with four winged griffons on large paw feet.
30in tall; 54in wide; 54in long without leaves; 88.5 in long with all 3 matching leaves (11.5in wide each); 100in with addition of the fourth leaf without the carved details (also 11.5in wide).
Table slides expand up to 154in, allowing for overall table length of up to 154 in long if additional leaves are constructed.
