c1780 Solid Walnut Secretary Desk w. Bookcase
Straight from the late 1700’s is this solid mahogany secretary desk with bookcase top. In addition to mahogany, this desk is made with other woods including walnut and cherry. This desk comes with a receipt of a purchase price from 1977 for $5,720.00 which would equal a price today of approximately $27,000. It also comes with an older appraisal of $7,500.00.
This desk has very old glass with the bubbles you would expect out of antique glass, all individually paned. It has solid brass Chippendale style pulls on the hardware, dentil molding along the top, two individual pull-out trays to hold your candles for lighting and it sits on elevated bracket feet.
The interior is lined with seven drawers and two “hidden” compartments. The dropdown area is large enough for writing, artwork, and modern day laptop use. There are eight cubbies, all with individual decorative lattice work above them.
The exterior has four larger individual drawers for additional storage.
Overall this is an incredible two hundred year old antique that is still functional today and adds beauty, sophistication, and elegance to your home as well as be used daily as your household desk.
