Sheila Wood Hancock’s “The Old Grove” is an original oil on canvas panel depicting a serene pastoral landscape with mature trees reflected in a gently winding stream. Hancock is an American painter known for impressionistic landscapes and still lifes, often using loose brushwork, atmospheric light, and layered natural color to create a strong sense of place and mood. The composition balances soft greens, muted blues, and warm earth tones, giving the scene a peaceful, timeless quality while still retaining an expressive painterly character. This work was selected for the Women Painters of the Southeast 2012 exhibition, adding a notable piece of exhibition history to its provenance. Signed by the artist, it is presented in a substantial rustic wood frame with a decorative gilt inner liner that complements the warm tones of the landscape.
