This early 19th-century engraving attributed to Sebastian Klauber depicts The Death of Elisha within a richly detailed Baroque interior, framed by ornate cartouches illustrating additional scenes from the Fourth Book of Kings and executed with the intricate linework and architectural depth characteristic of the Augsburg printmaking tradition. Rooted in the long history of memento mori imagery, such biblical death engravings evolved in 17th–18th century Augsburg into elaborate allegorical compositions that used Baroque symbolism to inspire reflection on mortality, faith, and salvation.
